Abstract:
The antacid effectiveness of bismuth subcarbonate (Ch P) was evaluated using Ch P test for antacid strength and Holbert procedure simulating conditions present in the stomach for determining neutralization characteristics. It was found that there existed a linear relationship between antacid strength or area under curve of neutralization characteristic and mean surface area diameter. It was stressed that a large surface area is necessary, for effective antacid action of bismuth subcarbonate.
