Abstract:
San-Chi, the rhizoma of
Panax notoginseng (Burk,) F. H. Chen. is a well known Ghinese traditional drug. In recent years, San-Chi has been used for treatment of angina pectoris, so we studied the constituents of this drug.
β-Sitosterol, daucosterol, quercitin, a glycoside of quercitin, (Glucose, xylose and glucuronic acid present in the sugar moeity) sucrose and six saponins (Sanchinosides C
1,C
3, D
1, D
2, E
1 and E
2) were isolated from the root hairs of
Panax notoginseng (Burk.) F. H. Chen. Sanchinoside C
1 and E
1 were found to be identical with ginsenoside-Rgl and-Rbl respectively. The saponin sanchinoside D
1 (20-S-protopanaxatriol, glucose, xylose and rhamnose) was not found in the roots, flowers, buds and leaves of Panax spp. Studies of the chemical structure of sanchinoside D
1 is in progress. Sanchinoside-C
3, D
2 and E
2 have been isolated only in small amounts.
