Abstract:
Yejuhua lactone (C
(15)H
(18)O
4)was isolated in 1962 from yejuhua (the flowers of Chrysanthemum indicum L.), a commonly known Chinese medicinal herb. It was considered as a new sesquiterpene lactone with guainolide type whose partial structure was postulated in the following year, but the full structure remains unsolved. In this paper, the early empirical formula and some experimental results have been revised. On the basis of our studies, it is shown that the compound is a diguainolide with the formula of C
(32)H
(40)O
8·By comparison of spectral data (IR,
1H NMR and
(13)C NMR), yejuhua lactone is proved to be the same compound as handelin the structure of which was elucidated by V. A. Tarasov et al in 1976.
