Abstract:
Attempts were made to develop new medicinal agents against schistosomiasis as substitutes for potassium antimonyltartrate. Some antimonyltartrates have been prepared in which organic amines were used instead of the potassium ion in potassium antimonyltartrate.
p-Carboxymethylmercaptoaniline,
p-carboxymethylaniline,
p-aminobenzoic acid,
β-dimethyla- minoethanol,
β-diethylaminoethanol,
β-hydroxyethylamine,di-(
β-hydroxyethyl)-amine,tri- (
β-hydroxyethyl)-amine,trimethylamine,triethylamine and 8-hydroxyquinoline were treated with tartaric acid, and subsequently reacted with antimonous acid, giving the expected compounds:Pharmacological examination revealed that none of these compounds was superior to potassium antimonyltartrate for the treatment of
Schistosomiasis japonica.
