Abstract: The ring and ball method of softening asphalts was suggested as the viscosity parameter for Chinese emplastrum. It was found that emplastrum had the optimal softening point of 46—55℃. Proper products could be obtained with the use of litharge and sesame oil in the proportion of 1:2, and heating of the mixture at 285—345℃ for 5 to 10 minutes.
