Abstract: The chemical components of Saussurea involucrata Kar et Kir ex Maxim were shown to contain alkaloids, flavonoids, lactones, volatile oil, saccharides and phytosterols etc. The total alkaloids were isolated from the medicinal herb. Experimental studies showed that the total alkaloids had the pharmacological actions followings: egg albumin (10%) induced acute arthritis of hind leg of rats were inhibited by the alkaloids (P<0.01).
