Abstract:
Two quaternary alkaloids were isolated from the water soluble fraction of the root of
Rauvolfia verticillata (Lour.) Baill. f.
rubrocarpa H. T. Chang. mss. On the basis of spectral analysis and chemical reaction, alkaloid Ⅵ was identified to be a known alkaloid, spegatrine (Ⅰ). It was isolated from R. species for the first time, Alkaloid Ⅱ named verticillatine, and was assigned as (Ⅱ) by IR, UV, MS and
1HNMR spectral data, chemical reaction and X-ray crystallodiffraction analysis. Spegatrine was shown to be an
α-adrenergic blocking agent and verticillatine exhibited ganglionic blocking effect.
