  • Abstract: A colorless crystalline compound, an active constituent for chronic bronchitis, was isolated from the root of the plant Chuan-Shan-Long (Dioscorea nipponica Makino). On the basis of spectrometric data (MS, NMR)and chemical degradation, this compound was identified as p-hydroxy benzyl tartaric acid (piscidic acid).
