Abstract:
AIM: Isolation and structural elucidation of the chemical constituents of the rhizomes of Chinese medicinal plant
Phlomis umbrosa Turcz. METHODS: The rhizomes were extracted with 95% EtOH by percolation and the crude extracts were purified by using silica gel chromatography. IR, UV, MS,
1H and
13CNMR spectra were employed for structural identification. RESULTS: Three compounds named umbroside (1), 4-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (2) and sculponeatin A (3) were isolated. CONCLUSION: Umbroside (1) and 4-hydroxymethyl-2-furaldehyde (2) were new compounds, and sculponeatin A (3) was a known B-seco-kaurene type compound unreported previously from this plant. The total
1H and
13CNMR data of sculponeatin A were assigned for first time.
