Abstract: A general phosphorimetric method for the determination of amines was developed. At certain pH, amines react with the dye, tropaeolin Ⅳ OO to form ionic pair complex compouds which may be extracted with chloroform. On reducing the dye with Zn in HCl solution, a strong phosphorescence is observed with maximum excitation at 302 nm, maximum emission at 424 nm.Tertiary and secondary amines may be analyzed by this method, with detection limit of about 5 ng.
