Abstract:
AIM: To investigate the sesquiterpene and other constituents of the aerial parts of
Michelia sphaerantha C.Y.Wu. METHODS: The compounds were separated by rechromatography on silica gel. Their structures were determined by spectral analysis and chemical evidence. RESULTS: Eight compounds were isolated. Their structures were elucidated as 9,14-dihydroxy-1(10),4-germacratrien-12,8-olide[1(10)E,4E,8α,9β] (I), sinapaldehyde (II), syringarosinol (III), syringaldehyde (IV), 3,3′-dimethyloxy-4,4′-dihydroxy-9,9′-monoepoxy lignan (V), nonacosane (VI), hexadecanoic acid (VII) and β-sitosterol (VIII).CONCLUSION: Compound I, named sphaelactone A, is a new product.
