CHEMICAL STUDIES ON THE WEAK ALKALOIDS OF RAUWOLFIA VERTICILLATA (LOUR) BAILL. F. RUBROCARPA H. D. ZHANG MSS.

Ten alkaloids were isolated from the weak alkaloidal fraction of the title Rauwolfia. On the basis of spectrometric analysis (uv, Jr, ms, nmr) six alkaloids Were identified as ajmalicine, reserpine, tetraphyllicine, ajmaline, antirhine(Ⅰ) and normacusine B respectively. Two alkaloids were identified to be yohimboid alkaloid but the configurations have not been clarified. The characterization of other alkaloids were hampered by scarcity of material. Antirhine (Ⅰ) was isolated from Rauwolfia species for the first time.
