STRUCTURE OF SWERTIAPUNISIDE FROM SWERTIA PUNICEA HEMSL

A new xanthone glycoside, swertiapuniside (Ⅴ), has been isolatedfrom the whole plant of Swertia punicea Hemsl. The structure was elucidated as 1, 5,8-trihydroxy-3-methoxyxanthone-8-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl (1-6)-O-β-D-glucopyranoside by means of chemical and spectroscopic data. Four other known xantho-nes mangiferin (Ⅰ), bellidifodin (Ⅱ), 1, 3, 5, 8-tetrahydroxyxanthone (Ⅲ) and swerti-nolin (Ⅳ) were also identified.
