INVESTIGATION OF PHELLINUS LINTEUS (BERK ET CURT) AOSHIMA POLYSACCHARIDE

Abstract
A pure β-D-glucan has been obtained from the fruit bodies of Phellinus linteus. Average molecular weight of the glucan is ca 13000.The structure of the polysaccharide has been investigated by using the techniques of partial acetolysis, periodate oxidation, Smith degradation, methylation, infrared spectrometry, gas-liquid chromatography, and GC-MS. The results of these studies indicate that a branched molecule possesses a backbone of β-(1-3)-D-glucan and side chains of β-(1-6) linkedD-glucose residues with branch and ends of minor β-(1-4) linked D-glucose residues.
