THE INHIBITORY EFFECT OF SUCCINIC ACID ON THE CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM
-
Abstract
In mice, intraperitoneal injection of succinic acid caused significant decrease of the spontaneous activity and hypothermia and significantly prolonged the pentobarbital sleeping time. Moreover, succinic acid was found to protect rats against audiogenic seizure and inhibit the electroshock seizure in mice, but not the convulsion induced by picrotoxin, strychnine and semicarbazide, It is suggested that the action of succinic acid may be implicated in the γ-amino butyric acid in brain.
