A STUDY OF THE CONSTITUENTS OF THE ROOTS OF RAUWOLFIA YUNNANENSIS TSIANG——Ⅰ.ISOLATION OF AJMALICINE AND RESERPINE

The benzene extract of me roots of Rauwolfia yunnanensis Tsiang was extracted with hot 20% acetic acid,then the acetic acid solution was extracted with chloroform. The chloroform extract contained weak basic alkalolds. Ajmallcine and reserpine were isolated from the Chloroform extracte by dissolving this weak basic alksloids mixture in benzene and by fractionating chromatographically on an aluminium oxide column.
