CHEMICAL INVESTIGATION OF GLYCOSIDAL STEROIDAL ALKALOIDS OF NORTHOLIRON HYACINTHINUM

From the bulb of Northoliron hyacinthnum (Wils) Staff, four glycosidal steroid alkaloids were isolated together with the aglycone—solanidine. Glycosides Ⅰ and Ⅱ were identified as β₁-chaconine and solanidine 3-o-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl -(1→2)-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(1→4)-β-D-glucopyranoside. Glycoside Ⅲ named as hyacinthoside is a newly discovered natural compound. Based on FAB, MS and ¹³C-NMR data, as well as acidic and enzymatic hydrolysis, the structure of hyacinthoside was elucidated. The structure of glycoside Ⅳ is being identified.
