STUDIES ON THE SWEET PRINCIPLES FROM THE LEAVES OF CYCLOCARY A PALIURUS(BATAL.)ILJINSK

Three intensely sweet compounds Ⅰ～Ⅲ were obtained from the leaves of Cyclocarya paliurus(Batal.)Iljinsk.The structure of ocmpound I was elucidated by chemical and spec-troscopic methods as 20,24-epoxy-dammarane-(3β,12β,20S,24R)-12-O-β-D-quinovopyranosyi-25-hydroxy-3-O-α-L-arabinofuranoside.It is a new compound,named cyclocarioside I,and is the main sweet principle of this plant,possessing about 250 times the sweetness intensity of sugar.
