BORON FLUORIDE AS CATALYST FOR THE SYNTHESIS OF P-AMINO-ACETOPHENONE
-
Abstract
A new method for the nuclear acetylation of acetanilide with acetic anhydride using boron fluoride(BF3)as a condensing agent has been attempted with satisfactory results. The first product being p-acetamino-acetophenone, after hydrolysis yielded p-amino-acetophenone. Recrystal-lization from water gave a product of melting point 107-108℃ (uncorrect-ed). Yield 36-42% (pure compound).
