STUDIES ON THE STRUCTURE OF A PHTHALIDE COMPOUND

A new phthatide (I, m. p. 190～191℃, α_D —105.5°, C₁₂ H₁₄ O₃) was isolated from the phenolic part of Ligusticum wallichii Franch. The structure of the compound Ⅰ(4-hydroxy-3-butylphthalide) was elucidated by chemical and instrumental analysis and proved by synthesis.
