SYNTHESIS OF THE HYDROCHLORIDE OF HEXAHYDROCANTHINONE

The hydrochloride of hexahydrocanthinone was synthesized by using common reagents as starting materials, instead of tryptamine which is not readily available at present.By employing ring-substituted anilines, this method may be used to synthesize the corresponding derivatives of hexahydrocanthinone.In the course of our work, six new intermediates were synthesized and their structures confirmed both by elementary analysis and by spectral data.This route may also lead to the model compound possessing an N-containing nine membered ring attached to an indole nucleus, whithout using tryptamine as starting material.
