STUDIES ON THE EFFECT OF OLEANOLIC ACID ON EXPERIMENTAL LIVER INJURY
-
Abstract
Oleanolic acid was found to be effective in the prevention of experimental liver injury induced by injection of CCl4 in rats. The results of this investigation indicate that the SGPT level and liver triglyceride of ratsintoxicated with CCl4 were markedly decreased, the degeneration and necrosis of liver cells were also significantly diminished, the glycogen content in the liver cells was increased, the damaged mitochondrial and endoplasmic structure of liver cells were restored by treatment with Oleanolic acid. The results both biochemical and morphological investigations suggest that Oleanolic acid has a potent protective action on CCl4 induced liver injury.
