APPICATION OF NEW TECHNIQUES OF NMR IN THE STRUCTURE ELUCIDATION OF JAPONDIPSAPONIN E₁ ISOLATED FROM DIPSACUS JAPONICUS Miq.

A new triterpenoid saponin, named japondipsaponin E₁ (5 sugars), was isolated from the ethanolic extract of the roots of Dipsacus japonicus Miq. The structure was elucidated by chemical and spectral methods. e. g. ¹HNMR, ¹³CNMR, ¹H-¹H COSY, selective long range DEPT and NOEDS, to be 3-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(l→3)-β-D-glucopyranosyl (l→3)-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl(1→2)-α-L-arabinopyranosyl-hederagenin 28-O-β-D-glucopyranoside.
