ISOLATION AND STRUCTURE ELUCIDATION OF A NEW AMINO ACID DERIVATIVE FROM RED GINSENG

  • Five compounds were isoated from the water isoluble fraction of red ginseng(processed roots of Panax ginseng CA Meyer).One of them was identified to be a known compound L-arginine(I).Compound II Is a new amino acid derivative. Its structure was characterized as 1-(arginine-Nα-yl)-1-deoxy-4-O-(α-D-glucopyranosyl)-D-fructose, named AFG(argininyl- fructosyl-glucose,on the basis of chemical evidence and spectral analysis and semisynthesized from maltosewith arginine.The identification of compound ⅢIV and V is in progress.
