ISOLATION AND STRUCTURE ELUCIDATION OF A NEW AMINO ACID DERIVATIVE FROM RED GINSENG

Five compounds were isoated from the water isoluble fraction of red ginseng(processed roots of Panax ginseng CA Meyer).One of them was identified to be a known compound L-arginine(I).Compound II Is a new amino acid derivative. Its structure was characterized as 1-(arginine-N^α-yl)-1-deoxy-4-O-(α-D-glucopyranosyl)-D-fructose, named AFG(argininyl- fructosyl-glucose,on the basis of chemical evidence and spectral analysis and semisynthesized from maltosewith arginine.The identification of compound ⅢIV and V is in progress.
