HPLC DETERMINATION OF THREE CURCUMINOID CONSTITUENTS IN RHIZOMA CURCUMAE

Abstract
AIM: To determine curcuminoid constituents including curcumin, demethoxycurcumin and bisdemethoxycurcumin of rhizoma Curcumae. METHODS: A reversed-phase HPLC system consisting of an ODS column and a mixture of methanol — isopropanol — water — acetic acid (20∶27∶48∶5) as the mobile phase was used. The flow rate was 0.5 ml.min-1 and detection was effected at 420 nm. RESULTS: The assay displayed good linearity over the concentration range of 0.1~1.9 μg and recoveries were 98.2%~101.1%. CONCLUSION: The method is accurate, rapid and reproducible and can be used for the quality study of rhizoma Curcumae.
