THE DIURETIC EFFECT OF CHINESE MEDICINAL PLANTS HUW-LUW AND CHUN-SUN(PHYLLOSTACHYS PUBERLA MUNRO AND LAGENARIA VULGARIS SER.)

  • Decotions of the two medicinal plants were administered intravenously to anesthetized dogs at dosages of 0.4gm/kgm.Marked diuretic effects were obtained.The action of Huw-luw is more potent and sustained than Chun-sun.A mixture of the two drugs a doses of 0.2gm/kgm each was more potent than either one alone.When given to ananesthetized rabbits orally once daily for seven days,the average volume of Urine collected within 12 hours after the drug was significantly larger than controls although the total daily urine was the same.
