DETERMINATION OF TAXOL IN THE EXTRACT OF TAXUS CHINENSIS BY REVERSED PHASE HPLC

  • Taxol, isolated from the stem bark of the plant Taxus chinensis, is a compound with a taxane ring~(1, 2) and is different from the known anticancer drugs in chemical structure. Taxol showed significant antineoplastic effect on transplantable tumors in mice.Because the antineoplastic effectis related to the content of taxol, a simple method is needed for the determination of taxol in the extract of Taxus chinensis samples. In this paper, an HPLC method for the determination of taxol is described in which betamethasone is used as an internal standard. The method is simple, rapid and accurate, as little as 0.1μg of taxol can be measured.
