THE PROTECTIVE EFFECT OF GINSENOSIDES AND ITS COMPONENTS ON MYOCYTES ANOXIA/REOXYGENATION AND MYOCARDIAL REPERFUSION INJURY

Abstract
We have shown previously that ginsenosides(G) possesses protective action against myocardial infarction. In order to estimate the possible effect of G and its component on anoxia/reoxygenation and ischemia/reperfusion damage, cultured myocytes from neonate rats and isolated rat heart were used in the present experiments. The results indicate that LDH release from myocytes during anoxia and reoxygenation ware significantly depressed by G (83 μg/ml) and its component Rb+Ro; but significantly enhanced by higher concentration (250 μg/ml) of G. The CPK release from isolated rat heart during reperfusion were significantly reduced by G and its component Rb+Ro (8.3 μg/ml) in the infusion solution. It was concluded that G and its component Rb+Ro can protect anoxia/reoxygenation and reperfusion injury of cultured myocytes and isolated rat heart. One of the active components is ginsenoside Rb fraction.
