ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF A NOVEL POLYPHENOLIC COMPOUND FROM PHYLLANTHUS URINARIA
-
Abstract
AIM: To study the chemical constituents the medicinal plant Phyllanthus urinaria L. METHODS: The constituents were separated and purified by using various chromatographies. The structural elucidation of the compounds were based on the analysis of their MS,1H & 13CNMR and HMBC spectra. RESULTS: Four polyphenolic compounds were obtained from P.urinaria and their structures were identified as: 1-O-galloyl-3,6-O-0HHDP-2,4-O-dehydroxymethylchebuloyl-βD-glucopyranose (I), pyrogallol (II), caffeic acid (III) and brevifolincarboxylic acid (IV). CONCLUSION: Compound I was found to be a novel ellagitannin, named phyllanthusiin U, and II~IV were isolated from this plant for the first time.
