THE CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF THE CHINESE DRUG "YADANZI" Ⅰ. ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF DAUCOSTEROL, BRUCEIN D AND BRUCEIN E

Three chemical constituents, Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and Ⅲ were isolated from the ethanol extract of the fructus of Brucea javanica (Chinese name Yadanzi) and identified as daucosterol, Brucein D and E respectively.In compound Ⅲ, the stereochemistry of C-15 was formerly inferred by biogentic consideration. We treated its acetyl derivative (Ⅲ-A) with thionyl chloride and obtained the △¹⁴ and the △^9(11),14 dehydration products (Ⅲ-C and ⅢI-D). Hence C₁₅-H should have α-configuration.The alleged glucosidic Yadanzidai⁽³⁾ was found to be identical with Brucein E.
