SYNTHESIS,ANTIINFLAMMATORY AND ANTICANCER ACTIVITY OF CINNAMIC ACIDS,THEIR DERIVATIVES AND ANALOGUES

Cinnamic acids were selected as lead compounds of antiinflammatoryand anticancer agents through the investigation of their biological properties. Their estersand related styryl ketones were also studied. A total of nineteen compounds, fifteen of themnot reported previously, were synthesized and found to be of considerable pharmacologicalinterest. In preliminary biological tests, compounds Ⅰ_A, Ⅰ_B, Ⅰ_c, Ⅱ_2c and II_5c showed signifi-cant inhibiting effect on croton oil induced mouse ear edema, Ⅰ_B, Ⅱ_sA, Ⅱ_sc and Ⅲ<>subD exhibitedgood activity on HL--60 human cancer cells in vitro. It is well worth noticing that com-pounds Ⅰ_B and Ⅱ_5c exhibited excellent antiinflammatory action as well as anticancer activity.
