A NEW EXPERIMENTAL MODEL OF EPILEPSY

Intraventracular injection of ferrous sulfate (300～360μg/kg)to rabbits, can produce typical clonic seizures and epileptic discharges in EGOG. The clonic seizure my be lasted about 4～5 days, but the changes in ECOG lasted about 3～4 Weeks.Antiepileptic drugs, such as phenobarbtal (30 mg/kg), Diphenylhydantoin (30 mg/kg). Sodium dipropylacetate (200 mg/kg) and nitrozepam (5 mg/kg) are in different degree effective in treatment of such Seizures. this chronic experimental model of epilepsy in rabbit my be used in the screening of antiepileptic drugs.
