ISOLATION AND STRUCTURAL DETERMINATION OF 8-HYDROXY DAMNACANTHOL-ω-ETHYL ETHER FROM THE ROOT OF DAMNACANTHUS SUBSPINOSUS HAND-MAZZ

  • The structure of a new anthraquinone isolated from the root of Damnacanthus subspinosus Hand-Mazz (Rubiaceae) was found to be 3,8-dihydroxy2-ethoxymethyl-1-methoxyanthraquinone Ⅳ by means of NMR, IR, UV and MS analyses. This anthraquinone is named 8-hydroxydamnacanthol-ω-ethyl ether. The compound was found to be active against Hela cells in culture.
