STUDIES ON THE ACTIVE CONSTITUENTS OF POLYALTHIA NEMORALIS A.ET D C

Five compouds have been isolated from the ethanol extracts of the roots of Polyalthia nemoralis A.et DC..By means of spectrometric and physico-chemical analysis ,four of them wereidentified as zincpolyanemine(PN₁),cupric bis(pyridine-N-oxide-2-thiolate)(PN₂),β-sitosterol(PN₃),and β-sitosterol-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside(PN₄).PN₂ is a new natural product. PN₅ is a newcompound.Its structure was elucidated to be 2-thiohydroxy-pyridine-N-oxide-2-S-β-D-glucopyra-noside.Pharmacological tests showed that PN₁ and PN₂ possess strong antimalarial ,antimycotic andantiseptic activities.
