CHEMICAL STUDIES ON ACTIVE PRINCIPLES OF VERATRUM STENOPHYLLUM I. STUDIES ON THE STRUCTURE OF STENOPHYLLINE B AS WELL AS IDENTIFICATION OF THE OTHER COMPONENTS

  • Fourteen constituents(Ⅴ1~Ⅴ14) were isolated from Veratrum stenophyllum Diels. Eight of them were identified as β-sitosterol (Ⅴ1), lignoceric acid (Ⅴ2), daucosterol(Ⅴ5), veratroylzygadenine(Ⅴ7), etioline(Ⅴ8), angeloylzygadenine(Ⅴ9), zygadenine(Ⅴ11) and jervine(Ⅴ13). Stenophylline B(Ⅴ6) is a new compound. The weak alkaloidal fraction and Ⅴ7 were shown to have significant activity in lowering blood pressure and heart rate in anesthetic cats and dogs.Studies in the structure of stenophylline B (Ⅴ6) is reported in this paper.
