EFFECTS OF GINSENG SAPONINS ON ¹⁴C-ARACHIDONIC ACID METABOLISM IN RABBIT PLATELETS

The effects of ginseng saponins(GS)on ¹⁴C-arachidonic acid metabolism in rabbit platelets were studied with radiochromatography and radioautography The results indicate that the ginseng saponins blocked the biosynthesis of platelet thromboxane A₂ in a dose-dependent manner. Also, the ginseng saponins inhibited the biosynthesis of platelet prostagandin A₂. The mechanism of action of the ginseng saponins was shown to be inhibition of both eyclo-oxygenase and thromboxane synthetase activities.
