COLORIMETRIC DETERMINATION OF SOLASODINE IN SOLANUM AVICULARE FORST

A method for the colorimetric determination of Solanum aviculare Forst based on the colour complex formation of solasodine with methyl orange is described. Mecerate the powdered leaf sample (500mg) for 24 hrs. with 5% acetic acid (50ml).Measure accurately 10 ml of the mecerate (which contains solasonine) and add to it 2 ml of 25% ammonium hydroxide to precipitate solasonine. Filter, wash the precipitate with dilute ammonium hydroxide and then dissolve in 5% acetic acid to make 10 ml of solution. Boil 2 ml of the s
