SYNTHESIS OF SCHIZANDRIN C ANALOGS

Schizandrin C, a new component isolated from Schizandra Chinensis Baill, was found to be effective in protecting the liver from CCl₄ injury.For the purpose of finding new synthetic drugs, several Schizandrin C analogs were synthesized. The intermediate compound: methyl 4,4'-dimethoxy-5, 6, 5'6'-methylenedioxybiphenyl-2,2'-dicarboxylate was found to be effective in lowering the elevated SGPT level in CCl₄ intoxicated mice.The spectra data and physical constants of several analogs and intermediates (3a, 3b, 3c, 11a, 12, 15a, 8a, 18a, 23) are also reported.
