ELUCIDATION OF THE STRUCTURES OF HUMANTENINE AND HUMANTENIRINE

Two new oxindole alkaloids, humantenine and humantenirine, have been isolated from the root of Hu-Man-Teng (Gelsemium elegcms Benth.) (Loganiaceae). Based on spectra data (UV, IR, ¹H NMR, ¹³C NMR and MS) and preparation of derivatives, the structures of humantenine and humantenirine were elucidated as (Ⅰ)and (Ⅱ), respectively. The former was Confirmed by single-crystal X-ray analysis of its hydrobromide.
