A PHARMACOGNOSTICAL STUDY OF CHINESE DRUG,GIN-CHIE,HERBAL SCHIZONEPETAE TENUIFOLIAE

1.The confusion in nomenclature of Gin-chie in Chinese herbals is discussed with the conclusion that it is,in fact,the drug,Chia-su(假苏)as mentioned in the Shen Nung's Herbal. 2.After a careful comparison of eight samples collected in various localities of China,it is proved that they are of the same plant,Schizonepeta tenuifolia Briq, family Labiatae. 3.The morphology,histology and diagnostic characters of the powdered Gin- chie are examined and described in detail with twelve plates of illustration.
