STUDIES ON THE CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF THE CHINESE MEDICAL DRUG, ROOT OF PAEONIA LACTIFLORA PALL

Abstract
Six crystalline substances have been isolated from the alcohol extract of the Chinese drug, root of Paeonia Lactiflora Pall. Four of them were identified as sucrose, benzoic acid, β-sitosterol and Palmitic acid. The other two are new compounds; they are named Paeonalin A, an phenolic aldehyde, C17H24O3, bp. 80℃/5 mm and the other Paeonalin B, a volatile crystalline substance, rap. 256℃.
