THE STEREOCHEMISTRY OF SANTONIN AND ITS RELATED COMPOUNDS

The relative and absolute configurations of santonin, β-santonin, artemisin, hyposantonins and desmotroposantonins, which have been deduced and determined mainly by the works of Huang Min-long with his coworkers and of Japanese scientists, are reviewed and discussed. The configuration of desmotroposantonins is further confirmed by removal of the asymmetrical carbon atoms C₅ and C₆.
