CARDIOTONIC ACTION OF A GLUCOSIDAL PREPARATION OBTAINED FROM PERIPLOCA FORRESTII SCHLECTER

A crude preparation of total glucosides was obtained from Periploca forrestii Schlecter by Mr, Y. C. Mao (莫云强). The action of the drug was studied as follows: 1. On isolated guinea pig's heart, as well as on frog's and rabbit's hearts in situ, the drug was found to be cardiotonic. 2. The changes in EKG on rabbits by intravenous injection of the drug were similar to those with g-strophanthin. 3. When assayed according to the method stated for digitalis in the Chinese Pharmacopeia, the pigeon unit of the drug was 5.9±1.0 (s.d.) mg/kg.
