STRUCTURAL IDENTIFICATION OF TRIGONEOSIDE VIII

AIM To study the chemical constituents of the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum (fenugreek). METHODS The compound was isolated with silica gel chromatography and its structure was identified by physical, chemical properties and spectral analysis. RESULTS A furostanol saponin named trigoneoside VIII has been isolated from the ethanol extract of the seeds of Trigonella foenum-graecum. Its structure has been determined as 26-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-25(R)-5α-furostan-20(22)-en-2α,3β,26-triol-3-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl (1→6)-β-D-glucopyranoside. CONCLUSION Trigoneoside VIII is a new compound.
