STUDIES ON ABSORBABLE SURGICAL SUTURES(CATGUT)(Ⅱ)ON THE EFFECT OF HEAT ON THE TENSILE STRENGTH
An instrument for the determination of tensile strength of surgical catgut is described. It is found that heat does not seriously impair the tensile strength of surgical catgut,when the latter is thoroughly dried. The presence of minute quantity of moisture in sugical catgut decreases its tensile strength considerably when heat-sterilized.
