Abstract
Using high resolution capillary GLC and GC—MS the constituents of volatile oil from the flower buds and twigs of Magnolia sprengeri Pamp. (Magnoliaceae) were examined in detail. Thirty-two components of these oils were identified. The content of each cmponent identified was determined by area normalization method. The content of seven components was higher than 5%: sabinene (12.18%), β-pinene (5.81%), P-cymene (7.31%), bornyl acetate (9.5%), trans-caryophyllene (8.25%), caryophyllene oxide (6.90%) and β-eudesmol (7.43%).It was found that the chemical components of the oils showed distinct differences. The characteristic compoents of the oil of flower buds are mainly sesquiterpenes and sesquiterpenols, but those of the oil of the twigs contain much more monoterpene hydrocarbons.
