STUDIES ON CHEMICAL CONSTITUENTS OF THE ROOT OF ACTINIDIA CHINENSIS PLANCH

A number of constituents were isolated from the root of Actinidia chinensis Planch. Seven of them were indentified as physcion (emodin-6-methyl ether) (T₁), emodin (frangala-emodin) (T₂), emodin-8-β-D-glucoside (T₃), questin (emodin-8-methyl ether) (T₅), citreorosein (ω-hydroxyemodin) (T₆), emodic acid (T₇) and β-sitosterol (T₄).Comparison of the ¹HNMR data of emodin (T₂) and its 8-glucoside (T₃) shows that the aromatic proton experiences a downfield shift of about 0.5 ppm upon glycosidation of an ortho phenolic group, a fact which can be used to advantage for the allocation of the glycosidic linkage.
