THE EFFECT OF SALVIA MILTIORRHIZA ON THE ISCHEMIC INJURY OF THE INTERCALATED DISC OF HEART IN RABBITS

Injection of the water extract of Salvia miltihorrhiza intravenously within the first 48 hours after ligation of the anterior descending branch of left coronary artery of rabbits diminished the ultrastructural changes of the intercalated disc of heart muscle distal to the site of Ligation as well as the mortality of the operated animals. It was suggested that Salvia exerts its curative effect through improvement of the conditions of the cytoplasmic membrane of the ischemic myocardial cells.
