A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON VARIATIONS OF THE ALKALOID CONTENT OF FIVE SPECIES OF DATURA IN CHINA DURING VEGETABLE PERIOD

The leaves and flowers samples at different growing periods have been collected and assayed for their total alkaloid contents from the five species of Datura which were cultivated in Chung-shan Botanic Garden. The following results have been obtained. 1. The suitable period of collection is about from September to October. 2. It has been shown that Datura inermis Jacq. possesses the highest alkaloid content.
