MECHANISM OF SOLUBLE DRUG RELEASE FROM HYDROPHILIC MATRICES,THE EFFECT OF HYDROXYPROPYLMETHYLCELLULOSE CONTENT

  • The effect of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose(HPMC)content on mechanism ofsol uble drug release from hydrophilic ma trix tablets was studied.Captopril and salbutamol sulphatewere chosen as model drugs. The study confirmed that soluble drugs were released by non-Fickiandiffusion mechanism by evaluating the n value in Peppas equation,The 30%of HPMC content wasregarded as the minimum content,at which dose the release of soluble drugs could be retarded. Different contents of HPMC in matrix only affected the Higuchi release patterns of soluble drugs afterabout 80%of the total drugs were released but did not change their release mechanism.
